Eric Wilson Brown, Dearborn, MO was selected as one of 98 national finalists for the Samsung American Legion National Scholarship at the annual Missouri American Legion State Convention held July 9-12, 2015 in Springfield.  Brown was selected by the American Legion Department of Missouri Education and Scholarship Committee from 120 applicants.  Brown will compete nationally for one of approximately ten Samsung American Legion scholarships expected to total $20,000 each which will be awarded by The American Legion this fall.  By virtue of his selection as a national finalist, Brown will receive a $1,100 scholarship, if not selected as a national winner. [more]

Student leaders from China will work side-by-side with Missouri's best and brightest
A group of 37 students from the the People's Republic of China will arrive in Missouri
in mid-June to take part in a nationally acclaimed youth leadership program which has produced
prominent leaders for more than 70 years. The American Legion Missouri Boys State and American
Legion Auxiliary Missouri Girls State will host a delegation of Chinese students at Central Missouri
University (UCM) in Warrensburg, Missouri. This groundbreaking international component to the
Missouri Boys State and Missouri Girls State programs is called the US-China Youth Leadership

DERIK ROBERT BRANDON RUSSELL RUSSELL NAMED 2010 SAMSUNG SCHOLAR
Derik Robert Brandon Russell, Waverly, MO is a little more at ease about paying for his college education these days.  Russell was one of ten students nationwide awarded the 2010 Samsung American Legion Scholarship in Indianapolis at the National Convention during September.  Each Samsung Scholar receives a $20,000 scholarship to be applied toward their college education at the school of their choice.  The ten students emerged from a list of nearly 100 finalists nationwide. [more]

MBS TRUST LAUNCHES WEBSITE TO SUPPORT FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
The Missouri Boys State Memorial Trust Board of Trustees announced the launch of a new website today in support of the current Foundations in Leadership Campaign.  The website, which is located at www.mbstrust.org, offers detailed information about the mission of the MBS Trust and provides the ability for supporters to make on-line donations by credit card to the Foundations in Leadership Campaign. The campaign formally kicked off at The American Legion Boys State of Missouri in June.  The Foundations in Leadership Campaign seeks to boost the Missouri Boys State Memorial Trust by $1,000,000 over the next two years. The MBS Trust received a $250,000 pledge in the form of a challenge grant from an anonymous donor earlier this year. The pledge is contingent on raising $750,000 by the campaign’s end. [more]

The Missouri Boys State Board of Directors and staff are saddened by news of the death of the first governor of the first Missouri Boys State Charles C. “Chuck” Richardson.  Richardson peacefully joined the post everlasting on Saturday evening February 24, 2007 at the Indian Creek Nursing Facility in Overland Park, KS with his family at his side.  He was 85. [more]
