"Boys State was good preparation for the college experience. Even if you aren't interested in politics, you still get the opportunity to do things and meet people you would not have otherwise gotten."

Answers

What are my responsibilities when it comes to Boys State?

Basically, we count on you to nominate the most qualified candidates from your school to send to MBS. Please review the criteria set forth in the Eligibility Requirements section of the website on selecting the best students.  Have the prospective student(s) complete and print an online application.  Ensure the student and his parent/guardian have signed the application.  Obtain the signature of your high school principal or the designated administrator on the application and send it to the local American Legion Post or the MBS District Chair in your area. Once the District Chair receives the application, it will be considered for selection.  Keep in mind the final decision on participation in the Boys State program rests with the Missouri Boys State District Chair.  The Executive Committee of The American Legion Boys State of Missouri, Inc. reserves the right to accept or reject any application.

How many students can I send?

The number of students selected from each high school to attend Missouri Boys State is determined by:  1) how many students meet the qualifications and are fully committed to participating; 2) how many students your high school nominates; and 3) how many sponsorships can be secured.  Our goal is to have every high school in the state of Missouri represented at our program.

Where can I get an application?

We require each student to complete an electronic application on our website.  The application is not electronically transmitted to the Missouri Boys State Headquarters for consideration.  After completing the application, the student must print a copy and both he and his parent/guardian must sign it.   Then the student gives the application to you to obtain the signature of the high school principal or designated administrator and submission.

Please note: we do not accepted handwritten applications.  Every application must be filled out on our website and printed.

Where can I get answers if students and parents/guardians have questions?

Many are answered in the Boys State Basics section of this website.  They may also contact Missouri Boys State Headquarters.

Do my students have to fill out an application on your website (Online application)?

We require each applicant to fill out their application on our website and print a copy.  This helps reduce typographical errors and significantly reduces processing time.  Simply have your student visit our website, create a new account, and fill out his application.

Again, the completed application must be printed and signed by the student, his parent/guardian and by the high school principal or designated administrator for it to be considered for acceptance.
