Answers

What are my responsibilities when it comes to Boys State?

Basically, we count on you to nominate the most qualified candidates from your school to send to MBS.

  • Please review the criteria set forth in the Eligibility Requirements section of the website on selecting the best students and the Recommended Nomination Process.
  • Have the prospective student(s) complete an online application.
  • Obtain the approval of your high school principal or the designated administrator endorsing the nomination of the students.
  • Access your high school portal by using the portal link provided by the Missouri Boys State Headquarters to nominate students.
  • Print and send or save and email the list of nominated students to the local American Legion Post or the MBS District Chair in your area.

Once the District Chair receives the list, the students will be considered for selection. Keep in mind the final decision on participation in the Boys State program rests with the Missouri Boys State District Chair. The Executive Committee of The American Legion Boys State of Missouri, Inc. reserves the right to accept or reject any application.

How many students can I send?

The number of students selected from each high school to attend Missouri Boys State is determined by:  1) how many students meet the qualifications and are fully committed to participating; 2) how many students your high school nominates; and 3) how many sponsorships can be secured.  Our goal is to have every high school in the state of Missouri represented at our program.

Do my students have to fill out an application on your website (online application)?

We require each applicant to fill out their application on our website. This helps reduce typographical errors and significantly reduces processing time.

Simply have your student visit our website, create a new account, and complete his application.
