Day to Day Activities - Saturday, June 18th

Arrival, Orientation, and Registration

Student leaders from around Missouri converged on the University of Central Missouri campus this afternoon, for the 77th session of American Legion Boys State of Missouri. With registration closed, nearly 1,000 young men began their journeys as citizens of Missouri Boys State. Today, citizens established connections for the week and beyond.

Opening Ceremonies

After supper the program's staff encouraged the citizens to engage in Missouri Boys State. The American Legion commander expressed his anticipation of the citizens leaving with a better understanding of democracy, and advice from the Dean of Counselors to concentrate on what can be controlled and inspiring others to dream, learn, do, and become more. The speakers at the evening assembly offered prolific advice in regards to succeeding in the coming week, emboldening the citizens not to fear failure, but to embrace the success failure brings.

Cities began selecting their Athletic Directors and Beverage Commissioners and by the end of the night each city had a complete political structure. After realizing how much they had already done, the citizens saw the reality of what they would accomplish in the coming week.

MBS Record

The citizens of Missouri Boys State publish a paper that is delivered to the citizens every morning. Copies of this paper are published here every day for your enjoyment. Today's edition is available here.
