Day to Day Activities - Sunday, June 17th

Starting in the City

Sunday of Missouri Boys State began with a crash course in campaigning for citywide and General Assembly positions. Afterwards, the citizens engage in their first governmental election of the week, following party caucuses in each city. In the afternoon, the citizens picked their school of instruction, settling into their first roles at Missouri Boys State.

Following Lunch, several different worship services were made available to the citizens, providing them the opportunity to experience and watch many different practices, or a ethics discussion. Later this afternoon, election results and city appointments were announced.

The citizens selected their School of Instruction this afternoon. Their choice of Campaigning & Political Operations, Public Administration, Legislative, Law Enforcement, Law, and Journalism will influence their direction throughout the week. Missouri Boys State's Schools of Instruction provide valuable hands-on experience in their fields, bringing new perspectives and opportunities to the citizens.

People Focused Leadership

The Sunday assembly began with Kansas City Mayor Sly James swearing in the newly elected Mayors of Missouri Boys State. Afterwards, Mayor James gave a speech encouraging the citizens to lead a life of service, to always lead with what will impact others in mind, rather than what will impact themselves. Later, Mayor James spoke on various issues facing Kansas City, Missouri, and the nation.

After his prepared address, Mayor Sly James held a question and answer session with the citizens, allowing them to pick up advice and his opinion on a wide range of topics.
