PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIPS
Participants who successfully complete The American Legion Missouri Boys State program in its entirety, and finish in good standing,
will be eligible to apply for the following scholarship opportunities which can be used at any accredited university.
This full-ride scholarship of up to $25,000 per year with a maximum four-year total of $100,000 will be awarded to one Missouri Boys State citizen. This scholarship, named in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt’s inspiring “Citizen in a Republic” speech which was a call to citizens to engage in public service will be awarded based on need and merit of the applicant. Winner will be selected by a committee and announced during the closing ceremonies the final Saturday of Missouri Boys State. During Boys State, a "Citizen of the Week" will be selected to receive the 40/8 Kickapoo Voiture Locale 760 Wayne Gregory Memorial Scholarship of $10,000. The Citizen of the Week scholarship is payable to an academic institution of the recipient’s choice approved by the MBS Trust with the option to request a full or partial payout of the awarded amount. Partial payouts of the $10,000 award will be allowed over a four-year period following high school graduation. Partial scholarship distributions will allow the awardee to coordinate other scholarships, grants and other financial aid benefits with the student's approved academic institution. The scholarship award can be used toward tuition, books, housing and other related expenses subject to the approval of the MBS Trust. One-time scholarships will also be awarded to the first alternate ($5,000) and second alternate ($2,500) with a lump sum distribution to be taken during the four-year period following high school graduation. Failure to take the scholarship distribution during the four years following graduation will result in forfeiture of the award. All awardees must meet all requirements as published by the MBS Memorial Trust as set forth during the interview process.
The citizen elected as the Missouri Boys State Governor is eligible to receive a $750 scholarship from The American Legion Scholarship Committee, payable to a college or university of the recipient’s choice. Must meet requirements including returning the following year as a staff member and successfully performing his executive duties as Governor.
Each participant who successfully completes the 2024 session of Missouri Boys State and meets the scholarship criteria is eligible to apply for the Samsung/American Legion Scholarship. Applicant must be a direct descendant (i.e., son, grandson, great-grandson) of a U.S. veteran who served on active duty during at least one of the periods of war indicated on the application.

One Department Finalist will be selected from the applications received from participants of Missouri Boys State. The Missouri Department Finalist will then compete against nearly 100 Department Finalists selected from other Boys State and Girls State programs.
The scholarship awards for 2024 as set by the National Committee are: 10 National Scholarships of $10,000 each and 10 National Runners-Up Scholarships of $5,000 each. The remaining Department Finalists will each receive a $1,250 scholarship.

These colleges and universities have partnered with Missouri Boys State to offer scholarships to participants who
successfully complete the Program in its entirety and finish in good standing. Contact each institution for more information.
Awarded to any eligible student named a Boys or Girls State citizen by their state. The scholarships for First-Time Freshmen are awarded to students based on their academic credentials such as high school GPA, class rank percentage, and official SAT, ACT, or CLT scores. Students can only receive 1 of the 5 Anderson University merit-based scholarships. Requirements for these scholarships must be met by March 1. Scholarships for First-Time Freshmen are renewable for up to eight (8) consecutive semesters of enrollment. Full-time (12 credit hours or more each semester) enrollment at AU is required. Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress to renew their awards from year to year.

Culver-Stockton College will award up to five $1,000 scholarships to eligible incoming freshmen who successfully completed Missouri Boys State or ALA Missouri Girls State and have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. Hampden-Sydney College’s founding mission “to form good men and good citizens” is still in practice today as we strive to enrich the personal and civic lives of our students. Any accepted applicant who has participated in Boys State and attends Hampden-Sydney College will receive this award. However, if the student is granted one of the College’s merit-based scholarships below the level of $25,000 per year, the Citizen-Leader Scholarship will take its place. If the student is granted a merit-based scholarship at the level of $25,000 or above per year, he will retain the merit-based scholarship and will receive an additional $1,000 per year for being a Boys State Participant.

Missouri Boys State participants who select one of the college credit options will automatically qualify for a $1,000 annual scholarship ($500 per Fall/Spring semester, renewable for up to 8 semesters) if admitted to Lindenwood University their freshman year. This scholarship does not apply to the college credit options. This scholarship is stackable with most other Lindenwood University scholarships and is renewable as long as the student remains in good academic standing and is continually enrolled at Lindenwood University.

Missouri Baptist University, in recognition of outstanding achievements of students completing the Missouri Boys State or ALA Missouri Girls State program, will award five scholarships valued at $1,500 each per academic year. The Missouri Boys State and ALA Missouri Girls State Scholarship is $800 per academic year ($400 per Fall/Spring Semester) and requires a 26 or higher ACT score. It is renewable for a total of 8 consecutive Fall/Spring Semesters if the renewal criteria are met. To be renewed, a student must enroll in at least 12 credit hours/semester at MSSU and complete at least 24 credit hours per year at MSSU with a 3.0 cumulative GPA. The scholarship must be used within one year after high school graduation, will be applied toward student tuition, and can be combined with other academic scholarships such as Honors, MOSO Merit, or A+. Each applicant needs to submit a FAFSA or birth certificate and provide a copy of his MBS/ALAMGS certificate to the MSSU Financial Aid Office.

Missouri State University will offer up to 5 awards of $1,000 each year to entering freshmen who participated in Missouri Boys State or ALA Missouri Girls State. To be chosen for this competitive award, students must have both a solid academic record and a strong record of leadership. This award is non-renewable. It can be combined with the Provost, Deans, Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders, A+ Recognition, and Missouri State Advantage scholarships. Students must apply for admission to MSU, submit the Missouri Boys and Girls State Leadership Award Application, submit a one page personal statement addressing their experience with Boys State/Girls State and how this experience will be used in the future, and provide verification of MBS/ALAMGS attendance (using their program participation certificate) to the Office of Student Financial Aid by March 1 of their senior year. The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Marine Option Scholarship offers students a way to pay for college and secure a career immediately after graduating. The NROTC Marine Option Scholarship is a four-year scholarship that provides full tuition at a participating college or university, stipend for textbooks, all uniforms and subsistence allowance each academic month. Scholarships are open to all high school seniors or graduates with no more than 30 college semester hours, a 1000 SAT score, ACT composite score of 22, or an ASVAB score of 74. The NROTC Marine Option Scholarship is the perfect opportunity for aspiring Marine Officers to complete their studies and earn a commission in the United States Marine Corps.

State Fair Community College will award one up to $500 non-renewable scholarship to an incoming freshman with a 3.0 GPA who attended the previous academic year at Missouri Boys State or ALA Missouri Girls State and demonstrated leadership. Applicants must have served as a participant in Missouri Boys/Girls State (official documentation of participation must be provided). Must be accepted to the University, and have a 3.0 High School GPA or higher. This award renewable. Full-time enrollment is required.
