Court of Appeals and Appellate Court

The Missouri court of Appeals provided MBS citizens the opportunity to see the law in action today. An actual case that the court was hearing was presented live at Lindenwood to provide citizens a hands-on way to learn. This experience is a unique grounding experience bringing everything back around to the world outside of Boys State. The citizens who undoubtedly got the most out of this experience are those who are currently attempting to serve as judges themselves on the MBS supreme court. After the court wrapped up their session, the Supreme Court Justices of the 84nd Session were sworn in.

MBS 2024- Tuesday

Governor Parson and Mara Liasson

This evening a joint assembly of Missouri Boys and Girls State was treated to a double feature of two influential figures in American politics. First, Governor Mike Parson entered Hyland arena and delivered an inspiring speech focusing on the importance of hard work, honesty and the American dream. The citizens of MO Boys State were inspired by Parson's story of growing up in small-town America and rising up to greatness by embracing responsibility. After Parson exited to thunderous applause NPR national political correspondent and Fox News contributor Mara Liasson. Liasson started off her keynote speech by giving an overview of the 2024 presidential election and explained how the polarization of American politics is leading to a challenge for the American people. Liasson was not without answers though and proposed several different ways to improve the current situation of American politics from reforming the electoral college, reinvigorating local journalism and investing more in Political education programs similar to Boys State.

MBS MEDIA

The journalism program at Boys State is comprised of three media outlets: KMBS-TV, KMBS Radio and the MBS Record newspaper. The citizens get the unique experience of reporting and broadcasting the news of the model state utilizing the up-to-date equipment found on campus of Lindenwood University. Daily planning meetings, interviewing and even advertising makes the role of media in democracy as realistic as it can be.
